Srinagar, Dec 15 (KNO): The district administration Srinagar on Wednesday started a drive to streamline the traffic on the roads while the authorities said that the width of roads are sufficient, but there is a need to develop civic sense among the commuters. They also said that the people should act responsibly and park their vehicles at designated places only. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Muhammad Aijaz Asad, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that a drive to streamline the traffic movement has been launched today after complaints about illegal car parking and unauthorized stop have been received. “It has been observed that the mini bus drivers pick and drop the passengers at unauthorized places. We have started a drive today to ensure that the buses stop only at designated bus stops only to ensure smooth passage of vehicular movement,” Asad said, while talking to the media persons during the drive at Lal Chowk. He added that stopping buses at unauthorized places will not be tolerated, adding that such happenings are adding to the misery of people and are hampering the smooth passage of the ambulances as well. Asad further stated that some of the vehicles found violating the norms were challaned today and this drive will continue till the drivers follow the rules in spirit. He further said that the traffic police cannot streamline vehicular movement alone, but the people should also understand their responsibility and should park their vehicles at designated places only. “The vendors too occupy the roads, who have already been given the designated place to run their business while the people also park their vehicles illegally outside the shops, thus leaving people to suffer. Such happenings must come to an end so that the vehicles especially Ambulances will have smooth passage,” he added. However, he said that there is a need to add the number of vehicles on some routes and that the authorities will ensure that the passenger vehicles are available in evening hours at the routes wherefrom complaints are being received—(KNO)
